Sculptra

Our skin is amazingly resilient, able to stretch and contract with the movements of our facial muscles. As we mature, however, our skin gradually becomes less elastic. This is due to the loss of collagen, fat, and other regenerating substances. The appearance of deep wrinkles and fine lines is a normal result of the aging process. Fortunately, there are ways to minimize the effects of time without the aid of surgery.

At Petaluma Botox in Novato, CA we are experts in non-invasive rejuvenation techniques. We design personalized skin rejuvenation plans for our patients, including injectable treatments to plump and smooth out age-related flaws. Sculptra dermal filler is an excellent option for individuals who would like to reduce smile lines, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles.

How Sculptra works

There are a variety of dermal fillers available today, which can be distinguished by their active agents and how they rejuvenate the skin. Many fillers are also specially formulated to address specific areas of the face. Sculptra is known as a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator. It contains PLLA microparticles that prompts the production of collagen, a key component that gives the skin structure and elasticity. Unlike hyaluronic acid-based fillers which hydrate the skin, Sculptra reinforces the skin’s structure at a deep level. Overtime, collagen-stimulating PLLA particles are absorbed by the body leaving, a collagen framework. The result is a smoothing of lines and creases, such as nasolabial folds.

Treatment overview

During a Sculptra treatment, one of our specialists will inject the filler into the deep dermis. To ease discomfort, a topical anesthetic may be used. The number of treatments needed for optimal results will vary from patient to patient. We find that most patients benefit from multiple treatments (2-3) over a few months. Our trained specialists can recommend the optimal number of appointments needed to achieve impressive natural-looking results.

Side effects and recovery

After a Sculptra treatment, patients can expect to return to their normal activities immediately. It is common for patients may experience redness, swelling, tenderness, and itching around the injection site. These side effects are temporary and usually subside within a few days. To reduce inflammation, a cold pack can be applied. To ensure an even distribution of Sculptra, massage should be part of the post-injection care. Sculptra is a FDA approved that is generally considered safe for most patients, with few risks of serious adverse side effects.

Results

Although patients may note an improvement right after treatment, Sculptra works over time. After a few days, the aqueous gel dissolves, reducing the post-treatment swelling. Wrinkles that were smoothed by the introduction of the aqueous gel will temporarily reappear. As the deep collagen-building process begins and continues, volume is gradually restored. It can take about 4-6 weeks for the full benefits to take effect. The results can last up to 2 years.
